Smoke Sauna Experiences at Uue-Saaluse Winery

Uue-Saaluse Winery operates in the historic servants’ house of Uue-Saaluse Manor, where we have been crafting wines since 2017. The labels of our wines depict the view of our lake and the old smoke sauna — the very same sauna built most likely in the early 1900s and renovated in 2007. year

For years, many visitors have asked about the possibility of experiencing our smoke sauna. We are now delighted to finally offer this unique tradition. Our sauna also has a small cinematic story: 2003. In 2003, the short film “The Devil Comes to the Sauna” was filmed here.

The smoke sauna tradition of Old Võromaa has been inscribed on the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage. We are proud that the smoke sauna tradition is still strongly alive here.

Package No. 1 – Heated Smoke Sauna (self-guided experience)

Up to 8 people / €250

Included in the package:

  • 2 hours in a traditional smoke sauna
  • Sauna towel, sauna hat, and drinking water
  • Refreshing swim in Lake Saaluse Alajärv, located right next to the sauna

If desired, one of our visitor packages can be added to the sauna experience.

If cancelled at least 48 hours in advance, the prepayment will be refunded.

Package No. 2 – Heated Smoke Sauna with a Guided Sauna Ritual

Up to 8 people / €350

Included in the package:

  • 2 hours of guided smoke sauna
  • Sauna towel, sauna hat, and drinking water
  • Swimming in the lake (available both summer and winter)

Your session is led by an experienced sauna guide, who conducts sauna rituals and creates a mindful and restorative experience.
Depending on the group’s needs, the guide may use:

  • whisks (viht)
  • herbal infusions
  • salt
  • honey
  • traditional sauna songs or spoken rituals

Every guided sauna session is unique. Sometimes the sauna calls for the strength of the whisk; other times, soothing herbal compresses are needed. This is the charm of a guided sauna – each experience is different and offers something new.

Information for Sauna Guests

Welcome to the Uue-Saaluse smoke sauna!
To ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience, please take note of the following:

Changing & Equipment

  • Changing takes place in a private room in the main winery building
  • A bathrobe is provided
  • Sauna towels and sauna hats are available on-site
  • You may bring slippers/woollen footwear (the sauna is ~50 m from the main house)

During the Sauna

  • The lake is right next to the sauna – swimming is allowed and recommended
  • After the sauna, you may shower in the main building if you wish

Health & Safety

  • Please inform us of any allergies (herbal, food, etc.)
  • Please inform us of any chronic health conditions (e.g., heart issues, diabetes)
  • Please let us know if you are pregnant
  • We expect sauna guests to be sober and in good health — each person is responsible for their own wellbeing
  • Alcohol consumption inside the sauna is not permitted
